TimeToBeSeen: A toolkit for media participation
These training materials were produced as part of the project, “Time to be seen: Promoting gender balance in media discourses on agriculture and rural communities in Ireland,” funded by Research Ireland under the New Foundations programme (NF/2024/11703). During the project, 100 articles on the topic of farm succession were analysed and the views of almost 20 journalists and farm women were interviewed to gather perspectives on current representations of farm and rural women in mainstream media. It was found that women are underrepresented as subjects and sources in media stories on key issues and events. These resources were therefore developed to meet the central aim of the project, to promote women's participation and representation in Irish mainstream media discourses on farm and rural issues.
